Dear Editor
Since the beginning of the global pandemic there has been a paternalistic approach to consenting patients for surgery. This is both because of guidance from overseeing organizations, and individual concern about significant morbidity and mortality. The first wave of the pandemic saw a shift towards less surgery in all settings and waiting lists increased1. Lessons can be learnt from this, and the present study looks at what clinicians and the general public view as acceptable risk associated with COVID-19.
