Introduction
Lobular carcinomas account for around 10% of invasive breast cancers. Accuracy of pre-operative evaluation can be troublesome. NICE guidelines recommend MRI "to assess the tumour size if breast-conserving surgery is being considered for invasive lobular cancer". However, each additional investigation introduces cost and potentially prolongs the treatment pathway, which is only justified if likely to affect outcomes.
