Abstract:
Ventral mesh rectopexy (VMR) is commonly employed technique for patients with full thickness rectal prolapse and obstructed defecation syndrome associated with internal rectal prolapse and rectocele. Failure rates are reported between 5% and 15% despite better availability of surgical techniques and materials. Douglasectomy is removal of fibrotic fat in the pouch of Douglas before the mesh is fashioned on the seromuscular layer of the rectum in patients with truncal obesity and perineal descent along with rectal prolapse.
