I should like to thank Drs. Chang, Esmaeli, and Butler for citing my article, “Defining the Role of Secondary Intention Healing in Full-Thickness Lid Margin Defects,” in their recent CME article in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. May I respectfully point out, however, that this otherwise most helpful article perpetuates a widely held misconception regarding the merits or otherwise of secondary intention healing (or “laissez-faire”) in the periocular region.
