Stroke emergency trolley to improve outcomes in stroke related emergency situations

Introduction
High quality care on a HASU requires staff who are skilled in stroke emergencies, a multidisplinary simulation package was introduced on the stroke unit so staff were equipped with the skills to manage stroke emergencies. This identified a development of a stroke specific emergency trolley.

Method(s)
Members of the MDT including consultants developed pathways and algorithms for common stroke emergencies and the trolley was passed through drugs and therapeutics This included seizure management, hypertension crisis and reversal of anticoagulants in haemorrhagic stroke, anaphylaxis was also included.

Result(s)
The trolley has decreased time and increased staff confidence in stroke emergencies.

Conclusion(s)
Improved outcomes in stroke emergencies and efficiency in managing situations.
