Aim
Management of complex oesophago-gastric cancer is difficult and decision making in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings may vary between centres across the country. There is currently no absolute standard for management of complex oesophago-gastric cancers. We describe the results of a scenario-based decision making survey sent out to all Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Cancer MDTs in England andWales.

Method(s)
The survey consisted of 15 questions which were a combination of clinical scenarios and management options. The survey was emailed to lead clinicians to all UGI MDT centres via Survey Monkey and individual emails.

Result(s)
46 UGI Cancer MDTs were identified. 20 (43%) survey responses were returned. 9/14 (64%) of the survey questions had a clear majority in the same decision made by the respondents. Only 2/14 (14%) questions showed no variation in answers. Of the rest of the questions, the answers had a range: 0% - 80%, mean: 37.9, variance: 409.7, standard deviation: 20.2. 4/20 (25%) of respondents stated that the survey had stimulated conversation about their current MDT policy.

Conclusion(s)
This survey demonstrates the variation in MDTdecision making for complex UGI Cancers and that there is scope for a greater debate for a UK consensus on management of UGI cancers.
